We live in the woods. We camp in the woods. Both involve campfires and sparky campfire tending. I have a coat for that.

This coat is silk and about 30 years old. Someone gave it to me. It has so many holes that it’s almost more patches than silk. I take it camping because of the fires and because I don’t care if it gets dirty or messed up. It’s rather like the Casita…it’s a practical and hard wearing comfort in my life. It packs down small and provides ease and comfort…could be a Casita slogan. lol
Like the simplicity in the molded fiberglass of the camper, it’s made of materials that last. I decorate its burn holes with patches. This ugly stepsister of a free coat gets complements when I forget to change into my regular winter coat, before leaving the yard. That always makes me chuckle.
Most embroidered patches are made overseas. I was just in a Hobby Lobby and it’s clear they are having trouble keeping inventory, as so little of their merch comes from the US. My Eagle Scout believes in the power of preparedness…but I haven’t shown him my backup sewing supplies. lol (I ordered most of these little patches on Etsy. )

On the latest trip a brass snap rivet popped out of the jacket when I wasn’t noticing. I am amazed I found the rivet and recognized what it was …lying there in the dirt on my last site check before leaving.
It’s easier if the Hub just has a picture ID on things. 🤣

Moral of the story: If more than one person unloads, make sure all items are super easy to identify as “stays in the camper.” And always have a little sewing kit handy…As much for an emergency suture as a mending tool. Also, do a good walk around before you leave. I pick up any little trash bits left behind by previous occupants when we first arrive and then double check we haven’t dropped something, upon our departure. I once found a nice copper bracelet half buried in the dirt as my reward.
I always enjoy a little mending project by the fire…well, when the puppy is busy. More on the Bassadoodle puppy’s first camping adventure is coming.
