It’s a rare camping trip that finds us staying put in a campground and needing a shade screen. We bought this one over 30 years ago at REI in Chicago and used it quite a lot in tents. As now, it’s great for sun shade and protection from rain in garden variety thunderstorms. Are there such things as garden variety thunder storms anymore?? Doesn’t seem like it.

So we are staying in a fabulous small glampground (I will be giving all those details later). We came when I saw a last minute notice of a cancellation on Facebook. It’s only about an hour and a half from home but it has a spring fed creek with shut ins. This means the dogs swim, too…all of us avoiding the high heat warnings. It also meant we needed a sun shade until late afternoon in this monstrous sauna heat.

Back to the tarp.

It’s on two poles with stake-out lines in front. Kelty makes the tarp in three sizes. Ours is the Kelty 12 (you might have guessed that from the picture as it covers the front of the camper so well.) The poles telescope and lock (purchased separately).

We have locking suction cups (purchased from Amazon in ‘15 when we purchased the camper new.) . We lock one onto the back window, one over the center to the back window and since we have a front window, we don’t need one there. We toss the lines over , tie them off and that’s that. See pics.

The tarp comes in its own lightweight bag. The whole kit and caboodle is lightweight and compact for storage but very durable.

It was a little pricey back when we bought it. It hasn’t gotten less expensive. lol
